I Just Need Time - Ch. 9

I went and got Belle. The flashy dark brown mare. Tacking her up as I went outside. Hesitating a second as i saw Jesse warming up. But Amy came up beside me with a gray gelding named Bullet.
"The arena next to where he and Devil are practicing" She told me.
I walked beside her, barley paying attention. "That's Devil?" I had seen the firey stallion in the barn, but i was too nervous to ever try to go up to him.
Amy nodded "and rightly named. He suits Jesse's attitude"
"I don't think Jesse seems like a devil."
"more like a demon in his case."
"I don't think he's like a demon either."
"did you hear him play during music?"
"yeah. I liked the music though. It was haunting in a alluring sort of way."
She stared at me for a moment before going to the arena, tighting Bullet's girth and mounting. I sighed doing the same with Belle. I watched Jesse for a moment.
He brought Devil to a sudden stop. Looking at me for a minute, stunned i'm guessing. Before he shook his head and went back to practicing with Devil.
I went through my lesson. But when i was about to dismount. Jesse trotted Spur over to me. I was surprised to see him on Spur, but figured he had changed horses and I hadn't realised it.
He smiled "So Belle up for a trail ride?"
I nodded lightly "yeah."
He smiled, and walked Spur beside Belle as we headed towards the woods.
I nearly jumped when he spoke "So you ride here?"
I nodded, mute.
"How long?"
"few months"
"Really? I thought i would have noticed you. But mom said she was taking in some new riders. I was training Devil at the time. Can't go near other horses with him."
"Speaking of Devil. Your sister said that your two personalities match. How your more like a demon than a devil."
He went quiet. "And I suppose she thinks she's a angel."
"I told her that I don't think your either of those things. Nothing remotly close."
He looked at me and smiled. "perhaps. When I want to be."
I paused and tipped my head confused.
He just laughed and said "Maybe, someday I can tell you." he pressed his heels to Spur's side and the stallion lept forward, taking off at a gallop.
I glared after him, kicking Belle into a gallop. I could only tell where they were by the faint flash of red now and then. I stopped Belle at the edge of a meadow when i saw Spur standing still. Jesse had dismounted and was looking out over the meadow. I dismounted walking over to them, Belle following. He said nothing, just motioned for me to follow him. Spur trotted after him, needing no hand to guide him.
As the terain got rockier and steeper. I heard the faint rumble of a waterfall in the distance. He let Spur go graze under a tree and I let Belle do the same. He went over to the rocks sitting down. I went over to him sitting beside him. Trying not to look a the terrifying drop just a foot away.
"Why'd you bring us here?" I asked looking at him.
He sighed "I come here when I need to think. This place.. relaxes me."
"how so? There's a terrifying 50 foot drop a foot infront of you. A river threatening to take you over the waterfall, and the sound is deafening."
I got him to laugh. "It's away from any human civilization."
"oh."
"Can I ask you a question?" he asked looking at me.
"Sure. What is it?"
"When you got to school. I noticed you looked... lifeless." he paused to make sure I wasn't offended. "Like something had eaten your soul."
I paused twisting my hair around my fingers. "Well, the day before. I found out my boyfriend, or should i say ex, was cheating on me. Again."
"again? What was his name?"
"Daniel. He cheated on me twice before. But said he had changed. And like a idiot i believed him." I nearly smashed my hand against the rocks we were sitting on in frustration, but he caught my wrist. I looked at him confused.
"You could break your hand." he answered simply. "go on if you want."
I smiled hesitantly. "He was my everything. The reason for my life. I have no reason for living anymore." I shifted slightly so I was more on the grass than the rocks now.
